With Halloween just around the corner, the German Red Cross (DRK) hopes to encourage people to donate blood by creating a special atmosphere. To that end, on October 30, the DRK Blood and Plasma Donation Center on Sachsen-Allee will be transformed into a “chamber of horrors” for one day thanks to “spooky yet beautiful decorations,” according to the DRK Blood Donation Service North-East. “Under the motto ‘Gentle vampires seek blood for Chemnitz patients,’ the DRK team is inviting people to donate blood or plasma with a touch of humor in the decorated rooms,” the announcement continued. Donors in costume are also welcome. The DRK explains that the campaign is taking place because many potential donors are away due to the fall break. The blood products obtained from these donations can help people who are undergoing lengthy treatments for cancer or who have lost blood in accidents. As a rule, any healthy person aged 18 or older can donate blood. For legal reasons, it is important to bring your ID card when donating blood. Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31 and is associated with spooky traditions. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
