More dentists in rural areas: a quota at Saxon universities is intended to ensure this. Applicants undertake to work in rural regions after completing their studies.

If you want to study dentistry in Saxony, you can apply to study next fall via the rural dentist quota. Eight study places will be awarded to applicants who commit to working in rural regions of Saxony for at least ten years after completing their studies, as announced by the state directorate.

The places at the universities in Leipzig and Dresden will therefore be awarded outside of the numerus clausus. In this way, the state hopes to attract more dentists to rural regions, it said.

Interested parties can apply online from March 23 to April 15, 2026. According to the state directorate, the two-stage selection process takes into account not only the school-leaving certificate grade, but also the results of an aptitude test and professional experience.
