According to experts, the oak processionary moth is spreading in Saxony. Not only can the moth strip entire trees bare, but its caterpillars also pose a danger to humans. Where is the species mainly found so far and what behaviors should be observed?
Occurrence in North Saxony and the Elbe Valley
According to the state enterprise Sachsenforst, there are two main areas so far: the district of North Saxony and the Elbe Valley. In northern Saxony, the moth has presumably spread from Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg, while it is thought to have been introduced to the area around Dresden. Municipalities such as Taucha and Eilenburg have recently issued warnings about the oak processionary moth.
