Germany now has almost 180,000 public charging points for electric cars. The fast-charging infrastructure is growing. The Free State is one of the leaders in terms of supply.

The number of charging points in Germany has continued to rise over the course of the year - and Saxony is one of the leading states in terms of supply. This is shown by an evaluation of data from the Federal Network Agency and the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). According to the analysis, there were twelve electric cars per charging point in the state on July 1 - compared to around 16.7 nationwide, taking into account both battery-only vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

This puts Saxony in third place among all federal states behind Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Thuringia. Across the state, there were 6,205 charging points (previous year: 5,365).

According to data from the Federal Network Agency, there were almost 180,000 public charging points nationwide on October 1, including around 44,250 fast-charging points. This was 16 percent more than on the same date last year. The publicly available charging capacity increased even more significantly - by almost 30 percent to more than 7.3 million kilowatts.
