A young driver tips his truck into a ditch and is seriously injured. Meanwhile, helpers have to catch the runaway load from the van.

A livestock truck carrying 30 cows has crashed on the A71 near Sömmerda. The 23-year-old driver was seriously injured in the accident on Friday morning, according to the police. Seven cows got onto the highway in the meantime. They were recaptured by the fire department and are apparently unharmed, according to the highway police. However, some of the animals in the trailer were reportedly slightly injured. The veterinary office was on site.

The transporter overturned between the Kölleda and Sömmerda-Ost junctions on the way to the rest area for initially unknown reasons, it said. The highway was closed in the direction of Schweinfurt in the morning for the recovery operation. The closure could last even longer, it said. The highway police estimate the amount of material damage at around 200,000 euros.
