A very drunk driver overturned his car south of Leipzig and then refused any medical treatment. The 41-year-old raced over a traffic circle on the B176 federal highway in Neukieritzsch (Leipzig district) on Sunday night, according to the police. His car overturned and came to rest on its side about eight meters away.
The emergency services were informed via a so-called eCall system in the car. According to the police, in an eCall, the vehicle automatically calls the emergency services in an emergency and transmits information such as its location to the emergency services.
The slightly injured and, according to the police, uncooperative driver refused any treatment. He was then taken to a clinic on the instructions of the emergency doctor. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of almost three per mille. The man is now being investigated for endangering road traffic.
From an alcohol level of three per mille, circulatory failure, unconsciousness and even coma are to be expected. There is a risk of paralysis of the respiratory center and thus danger to life. However, this does not apply to alcohol addicts, as the Federal Institute of Public Health explains. People who drink alcohol regularly develop a certain alcohol tolerance. Typical symptoms of drunkenness then often only occur at higher blood alcohol levels.
