The discounter Pfennigpfeiffer, which is particularly well-known in eastern Germany, disappears. More than 80 stores change their logo. The product range remains similar in many places.

The branches of the discounter Pfennigpfeiffer, which is particularly well-known in the eastern German states, are gradually disappearing from the cityscape. The integration of the acquired stores and employees is currently underway, according to the Dortmund-based discounter Tedi.

Tedi had already announced the takeover of 84 Pfennigpfeiffer stores in December. According to the company, the Federal Cartel Office approved the takeover in March. The stores are now gradually being redesigned.

Pfennigpfeiffer is based in Landsberg (Saxony-Anhalt). The first store was opened near Riesa (Saxony) in 1993. Until recently, the focus of the stores was in Saxony, but there were also branches in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Thuringia and Bavaria. In the meantime, more than 100 stores were operated.

Tedi is focusing on strong growth of its store network

Tedi, based in North Rhine-Westphalia, is currently pursuing an expansion strategy. The company, which primarily sells household goods and stationery, currently operates more than 3,300 stores in Europe. The aim is to establish a network of 5,000 stores in the medium term, the company announced. The takeover of the Pfennigpfeiffer stores is therefore an important step in the implementation of the expansion strategy. The company would not comment on the current status of the conversion of the acquired stores.
