Saxony's breweries are looking ahead with confidence. "We hope that the new federal government in Berlin will also bring about the urgently needed change in policy and that people will look positively to the future," said the President of the Saxon Brewers' Association, Steffen Dittmar, on the occasion of Beer Day on April 23.
Despite rising costs, increasing bureaucracy and demographic challenges, the industry is still on course for growth. The number of breweries in the state has risen to 84 over the past 30 years, more than doubling.
With total beer sales of just under 6.7 million hectoliters, Saxony was once again one of the three largest brewing states in Germany in 2024. In eastern Germany, the Free State occupies a leading position.
