Police: Further investigations are intended to rule out accomplices

Police are continuing their investigation following the arrest of a suspect in connection with attacks on the power grid in three federal states. “We currently have no evidence to suggest that there are other perpetrators involved,” Beate Kardels, spokesperson for the Brandenburg Police Headquarters, told the German Press Agency. “Nevertheless, this is, of course, also part of the investigation to rule out that possibility entirely.”»

Explosives Found During Arrest

Police in North Rhine-Westphalia had previously arrested a 48-year-old suspected perpetrator near the Weisweiler substation near Aachen. According to police, he was carrying additional explosives at the time of his arrest, and more explosives were found in a nearby tent. He is believed to be responsible for several attacks on the power grid in Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Saxony.

The Cottbus public prosecutor’s office is investigating on suspicion of causing an explosion with explosives and on suspicion of destroying important equipment. Brandenburg’s Interior Minister Jan Redmann (CDU) had referred to a “misguided lone perpetrator.”
