Saxony's hospitals are sounding the alarm about a lack of budget funds. The hospital association warns: the state parliament must make a decision before the end of June - otherwise there is a threat of a care emergency.

The Saxony Hospital Association (KGS) has called on the members of the Saxon state parliament to make a decision on the 2025/2026 double budget before the end of June. According to the KGS, this is due to concerns about an impending emergency situation in the state's hospitals.

According to the KGS, hospitals are currently only receiving a fraction of the necessary lump-sum funding for the maintenance and replacement of hospital infrastructure as part of the provisional budget. Without a prompt adoption of the budget, there would be a lack of planning security and financial scope for action, the association warned.

According to independent estimates, the annual investment requirements of Saxony's hospitals amount to around 330 million euros. In addition, 125 million euros per year would be co-financed by the Free State as part of the nationwide transformation fund for hospital reform.

The KGS says it represents 76 hospitals with around 26,000 beds and more than 58,000 employees in the Free State. Around one million patients are treated as inpatients every year.
