The Saxony Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) does not expect consumers to have to pay less in restaurants in future. With the reduction in VAT, prices will remain stable, CEO Axel Klein told the "Sächsische Zeitung" and the "Leipziger Volkszeitung". "Costs have risen and there has been a drop in sales for restaurants," said Klein. "Compared to the pre-coronavirus year of 2019, when the restaurant industry was still doing really well, this amounts to 14.4 percent."
VAT on food in restaurants will fall from 19 to seven percent from January 1, 2026. "The tax reduction is being made to strengthen businesses and not consumers," emphasized Klein. "Nevertheless, guests will benefit if the restaurateur is well positioned, can pay his staff well and invests."
