Due to heat damage, there will be no tram service in Leipzig until early Monday morning. Leipzig Public Transportation (LVB) is suspending tram service until 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning due to heat damage to tracks and switches, the company announced. Initially, LVB had suspended service only through Sunday night, but the suspension period has now been extended.
According to the announcement, the high temperatures caused the joint sealant for asphalt and concrete in switches and tracks to flow and clump together in many places throughout the network. Safe tram operation is currently not possible, the company said.
All tram lines in the Saxon city are affected by the suspension. Buses are expected to run on schedule as much as possible. Passengers should check for current service information before traveling.
