Transparent factory: VW negotiates with TU about campus

A research campus could be established at the Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden from 2026. Volkswagen is negotiating with the Technical University (TU) Dresden about joint use of the factory premises in the Saxon state capital, as confirmed by spokespersons from both sides. The Free State of Saxony is also involved in the negotiations. The "Handelsblatt" initially reported on this. According to this, the talks are scheduled to be concluded in the summer.

If an agreement is reached, an innovation campus for cutting-edge research is to be created in close cooperation with strategic corporate partners, according to the TU. According to the report, half of the area could be available for this from next year, with the rest of the site remaining in the hands of VW.

Volkswagen is struggling with sales problems. The company therefore wants to cut 35,000 jobs across Germany. Production of the ID.3 electric model at the Gläserne Manufaktur, which employs around 320 people, is to be discontinued at the end of the year. Founded in 2001 as a prestige project, the site is the automotive group's newest and smallest. In February, Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) recalled the contractual agreement on car production at the site.
