The Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports have recorded passenger growth in the first eight months of this year. However, the two airports are still a long way from the levels seen in the pre-Corona year of 2019.
As Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG announced on Wednesday, Leipzig/Halle Airport recorded some 1,349,600 passengers between January and August. That was 41 percent more than in the same period last year.
According to statistics from the ADV airport association, more than 1.7 million passengers had still used Leipzig/Halle Airport in the first eight months of 2019. That is a minus of about 22 percent.
At Dresden Airport, the pre-crisis level is even further away. From January to August, just under 599,000 passengers were recorded in the Saxon capital. That was 13 percent more than in 2022, but 42 percent less than in 2019, when more than one million people had flown in and out of Dresden.
According to Flughafen-AG, tourist destinations are growing at both airports. In Dresden, two airlines will start new connections to Turkey in September. From Leipzig/Halle, there will soon be twice-weekly services to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
