The striking Chemnitz Congress Hotel in the heart of the city is closing. The management has decided to cease operations on January 31, 2026, according to a spokesperson for the GCH Hotel Group. The reasons were not disclosed. "No further details can be provided at this time. We do not comment on speculation."
The NGG trade union had previously raised the alarm. According to them, just under 40 people currently work at the hotel, including 7 trainees. More than 200 rooms were last offered. The hotel had been heavily booked in the last Capital of Culture year and the staff had been working overtime for months. Now they are facing an uncertain future. "This is ice-cold business conduct," criticized trade unionist Thomas Lißner.
