High electricity prices and a lack of subsidies: many people are hesitant to buy an electric car. An industry representative blames politicians for the uncertainty and calls for clear incentives.

The Automotive Cluster East Germany is in favor of more state support for the purchase of e-cars. "It has always been true that in times of crisis and uncertainty, people are reluctant to buy expensive goods first," said Managing Director Jens Katzek. Cars are particularly affected by this. What is needed are purchase incentives and calculable energy costs - at least in the transition phase.

Katzek is convinced that electric vehicles would already be much more attractive today if uncertainties regarding charging infrastructure, power supply and energy prices were eliminated. He is calling on the Saxon state government to launch a Federal Council initiative to provide tax breaks for charging electricity.

This would make electric cars more attractive to consumers and the decline in sales figures in Germany could be halted. As many challenges cannot be solved primarily at state level, Saxony should also initiate greater cooperation between the automotive-relevant federal states vis-à-vis the federal government and the European Union.
