The size of the cultivated areas for soybeans in Saxony-Anhalt has tripled in recent years. While in 2016 soybeans were grown on about 887 hectares of land, last year it was 2700 hectares, as reported by the State Statistical Office in Halle on Monday. The number of cultivating farms has also increased, according to the report: With a total of 80 farms in 2022, the statistics office counted last year about twice as many farms as in 2016 (41).

According to the data, most soybeans were harvested last year in the Burgenlandkreis. Compared with other legumes, only larger quantities of peas are harvested in Saxony-Anhalt, it said. Across Germany last year, Saxony-Anhalt accounted for about five percent of arable land and four percent of the crop.
