After the gardening season began in March, the seeds provided by the Dresden Seed Library were completely sold out within a few weeks. Now there is a replenishment.

Hobby gardeners can fill up on different varieties of wild and meadow herb seeds at the Seed Library in Dresden and take them home. The library recently received a lot of seeds from a project of the Dresden Environmental Center, the institution announced. Examples, it said, were the herbs dyer's chamomile and Guter Heinrich. At the beginning of March, the seed library had already made seeds available to hobby gardeners free of charge. The approximately 1200 bags were already completely sold out after approximately two weeks, said a spokeswoman. Examples are the herbs Färberkamille and Guter Heinrich.

In general, the process works like this: Employees put together bags of seeds that can be taken away free of charge. Plant lovers and garden enthusiasts are to plant it and take seeds from the fully grown plants after flowering or harvesting, which can be returned to the library dried. A goal of the project is it to promote the plant variety in the city - above all dry-resistant, sort-pure and seed-firm seed is in demand.

According to the seed library citizens could deliver also at any time free material of old sorts in the Dresden central library in the culture palace. The seed library in Dresden was launched two years ago. The idea reportedly originated in the United States. The pioneers in Germany were the Hamburg Bücherhallen. According to the Dresden Seed Library, there are now similar facilities throughout Germany - including in Leipzig.
