After several years of high visitor numbers, 2024 has gone somewhat less well for Leipzig Zoo. The zoo boss blames one event in particular for this.

Last year, slightly fewer people visited Leipzig Zoo than in previous years. Around 1.7 million guests were counted in 2024, the zoo announced. In 2023, there were 1.9 million visitors; in 2022, 1.87 million guests were registered. Zoo boss Jörg Junhold nevertheless considered the result to be very popular. Due to the European Football Championship with the numerous events in Leipzig, the year was challenging.
