For most travelers to the Algarve, Faro is the starting and ending point of their vacation—because there’s an airport there. But they don’t just have one airport there! So it’s definitely worth making Faro and/or the island just off its coast (which is actually just a peninsula: Península do Ancão—but nobody calls it that…) your vacation destination for a while. No sooner said than done—and I don’t regret it.
There are so many places to go out in Faro that you could go out morning, noon, and night for days on end without ever repeating yourself. That’s where it helps to know locals who understand your preferences and can give you tips (obrigado, Sara). But it’s not just about friends—there are also recommendations from friendly receptionists that shouldn’t be overlooked, and true to the motto “the proof is in the pudding,” you can discover exciting things that way, too. And last but not least, you can of course just stroll through the streets and pop into wherever catches your eye—that usually works out just fine, too!
