Thüringer HC has decided not to compete in the Women's Handball Champions League. "The economic reasons speak against it. We have to keep our feet on the ground," THC shareholder Robert Böhm told the "Thüringer Allgemeine" (Thursday). The club had qualified for the competition with the 16 best teams in Europe by winning the European League.
In addition to the stressful schedule with long trips during the many English weeks, the Thuringians would also have to provide a larger squad to cover all competitions. "That's too big for us. Our strength is exhausted. That wouldn't be us either," said Böhm, who described the European League as a "living room".
Success in the second most important European competition also means that the Thuringians do not have to qualify for a place in the "living room", but are seeded as the head team for the group stage starting in 2026.
