Behind superstar Gidsel, the backcourt player has little playing time in Berlin. He should now get that in Thuringia.

ThSV Eisenach has landed a transfer coup two weeks before the start of the new handball Bundesliga season. Max Beneke joins the Wartburgstädter on loan from German champions Füchse Berlin. The 22-year-old is set to strengthen the Thuringians' backcourt.

Beneke, who made his national team debut in 2023, had to line up behind his Mathias Gidsel for most of last season. The Dane recently defended his title as world handball player and led his home country to a fourth World Cup gold medal in a row.

Benecke moved to second-division club VfL Potsdam in 2022 when Gidsel was signed on a second-team contract. Since his full return to the capital at the start of the past season, Beneke has been in the Füchse squad for all league games, scoring 26 goals in 23 appearances.
