As Steffen Baumgart revealed when he was introduced as the new Union coach, at the age of 30, he won over the stadium crowd with a special move as a newly signed professional.
"A scene right in the first game against Mainz: I came in 20 minutes before the end and made the first tackle at the beautiful little house. And Marco Rose was my victim. After that, the whole block stood. And after that, a love was born that never went away," Baumgart told the press conference of Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin.
The current head coach of RB Leipzig can no longer remember this scene. "Baumi dreamed that," said Rose ahead of this Saturday's Bundesliga showpiece (18:30/Sky) at Union. Mainz had won the second division match 2-0 against the Köpenickers on August 10, 2002.
