At his debut in Leipzig, Martín Demichelis referred to Germany as his second home. As coach of RB, passion is the Argentine’s top priority. A key appointment has been finalized.

Argentine Martín Demichelis wants to bring a lot of passion to his RB Leipzig team as he lives out his dream of coaching in the Bundesliga. “It’s an honor for me to be part of this club. I want to take the next step forward together with everyone. Intensity, passion, courage, and an attacking mindset—those are words I really like. Also aggressiveness and intensity in every challenge, playing boldly forward, defending courageously, and showing body language,” said the 45-year-old Argentine during his introductory press conference.

Clear message regarding Diomande

The former world-class defender has already been in contact with all of Leipzig’s World Cup players, including Yan Diomande, who is being courted by top clubs. “Yan still has a contract; he has to come back,” said Demichelis, who is in agreement with sporting director Marcel Schäfer regarding the Ivorian’s situation: “He should enjoy his vacation. “It’s our clear intention that we keep players here for more than a year,” said Schäfer, who sees even more potential in the dribbling maestro.

Demichelis, who described Germany as his second home, emphasized that he sees “no limits to development in soccer.” Sports director Schäfer views the new signing as “a new era.” His predecessor, Ole Werner, had to leave RB after just one year despite the team finishing third and qualifying for the Champions League.

Gruda Deal Expected

Following the signings of Abdoul Koné and Rocco Reitz, Brajan Gruda—who is set to be loaned again from Brighton and Hove Albion with a new mandatory buyout clause—is also expected at training shortly. According to Schäfer, other personnel moves—such as a transfer of French center back Maxime Esteve—are not yet finalized.
