After riots: Stadium ban and expulsion for Dynamo fans

Dynamo Dresden is threatening its supporters with stadium bans and the withdrawal of their membership following the riots in the second division match against Hertha BSC. "Anyone who demonstrates such misconduct can no longer be part of our sports community," said president Ronny Rehn. We will "plead with the Honorary Council to withdraw the membership of these individuals."

This step will not stop there. "For us, there is no potential for discussion here - as soon as perpetrators are identified, there will be a strict procedure for stadium bans from our side in addition to criminal prosecution by the police," said managing director Stephan Zimmermann.

Expanded security concept

In addition to personal punishments, the club is revising its security concept. Buffer areas in the home section around the visitors' block will be extended and the seating area of the away block will be restricted. At high-risk matches, police officers will be positioned directly in the stadium and security staff will secure the interior in front of the K-Block area, where the hard core of Dynamo fans are located.

"By reviewing photo and video material, we were able to gain numerous insights into the procedures," said Zimmermann. At the match on April 4, supporters of both teams had climbed over barrier fences and attacked each other inside the stadium with fireworks, among other things. Police officers then intervened, separated the camps and secured the pitch.

Schuster calls for quick stadium bans

Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster praised Dynamo for the measures, but called for more than just words and intentions. "All the stops must now be pulled out, because the upcoming home games are a crucial test for the club and the fan scene in terms of honestly turning away from violence and rioting," said the CDU politician.

The incidents before the game at 1. FC Nuremberg, when more than 200 supporters of Dynamo and the club had arranged a brawl in an industrial estate near Eisfeld before the duel, which was classified as a high-risk game, should also be dealt with. Schuster expects "a quick decision on nationwide stadium bans from the DFB/DFL for those involved."
