Now there could be more movement in the Xavi Simons situation. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea FC want to start negotiations with RB Leipzig regarding the Dutchman this Tuesday. Xavi's advisor, his brother Faustino, had previously contacted the club's world champion.
The 22-year-old Simons, who announced his intention to leave RB this summer back in May, was also recently in talks with FC Bayern after Jamal Musiala suffered an injury. Munich's sporting director Max Eberl had once brought the Dutch midfielder to Leipzig.
Simons' performances have stagnated of late
Simons was signed permanently by the Saxons at the end of January after being loaned out from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023. RB paid a transfer fee of €50 million, plus possible bonus payments.
The Leipzig club hoped this would be a record transfer. However, the Dutchman's performances have stagnated of late. RB also played the worst season in its Bundesliga history and failed to qualify for international business for the first time. That was also a reason for Simon's desire to move.
However, a possible move to Stamford Bridge in the Premiere League is dependent on Chelsea FC's sales. Arsenal FC are also said to be interested in Simons. However, the priority is the signing of the Swede Viktor Gyökeres, who in turn is being traded as an alternative to Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
