Handball Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt has signed international Marko Grgic, who has been courted by many clubs. However, it will be a while before the 21-year-old plays for the North Germans.

Bundesliga handball club SG Flensburg-Handewitt has landed a coup on the transfer market and outdone the competition. The club has announced that German international Marko Grgic will join the SG from ThSV Eisenach for the 2026/27 season. The 21-year-old backcourt player has signed a three-year contract with the North Germans.

"I'm delighted to become part of the SG Flensburg-Handewitt," said Grgic, who had been on the list of top national and international clubs. "The club is one of the biggest in the world and I want to help it get back to where it belongs - at the top."

In the current season, Grgic leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with 218 goals from 25 games. He made his debut for the national team in May 2024 and has played 25 international matches to date, scoring 72 goals.

In recent weeks, there had been a lot of fuss about the future of the top talent. A transfer as early as this summer was up for discussion, and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf also courted Grgic intensively. However, Eisenach did not release the sought-after player.

The SG is now making use of an exit clause that allows Grgic to leave Eisenach in 2026 for a fixed transfer fee. "We're glad that the recent discussions about his future have come to an end," said ThSV managing director René Witte.

SG managing director Holger Glandorf said of the 21-year-old: "Marko is a young player who, despite his age, already has many facets, always wants to develop further and can be used flexibly both up front and at the back."
