Bundesliga handball club ThSV Eisenach narrowly missed out on a major sensation against record champions THW Kiel. The Thuringians squandered a three-goal lead in the closing stages, but managed to hold on for a 30:30 (16:13) victory. It was the Wartburg club's first point in Kiel and only its second away point of the season. The best scorers in the game were Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu with eight goals for THW and Moritz Ende with six for the visitors.
ThSV's keeper Spikic was always on hand
The club from Thuringia, who had already snatched a point from the North German club in the first leg (27:27), got off to a brilliant start. The visitors went 3:0 (4th minute) and then 12:7 (20th minute). Kiel did not get into the game and repeatedly failed to score against Eisenach's goalkeeper Matija Spikic.
Kiel also struggled after the break. The Faroese Ellefsen á Skipagøtu tied the scores again at 21:22 (45'). Eisenach maintained the lead until the final period. The visitors were still 30:27 ahead in the 59th minute. However, Ellefsen á Skipagøtu and Lukas Zerbe, who showed nerves of steel twice from the seven-meter line, secured a fortunate draw for THW.
