The dispute between Thuringia's Minister-President Mario Voigt and Chemnitz University of Technology over the revocation of his doctoral degree has come to an end: The CDU politician is withdrawing his lawsuit.

The legal proceedings in the dispute over Thuringia’s Minister President Mario Voigt’s (CDU) doctoral degree have been dismissed. Voigt has withdrawn his lawsuit, a spokeswoman for the Chemnitz Administrative Court said in response to a dpa inquiry. As a result, the court will no longer address the merits of the legal dispute. Voigt will be responsible for the costs of the proceedings.

After a lengthy review, Chemnitz University of Technology had decided to revoke the CDU politician’s doctoral degree and rejected Voigt’s appeal against the decision. He subsequently filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court. Voigt faces allegations of plagiarism in his 2008 dissertation, “The American Presidential Election Campaign: George W. Bush vs. John F. Kerry.”
