EU funding has strengthened Saxony's economy, according to Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD). "With the EU structural funds, we have achieved a lot for Saxony's economy in the past funding period and provided a tailwind," he said in a statement on Sunday. This will strengthen the competitiveness of companies in the long term, secure well-paid jobs and promote exchange and cooperation between business and science.
Dulig referred to the results of a study on the effectiveness of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the 2014-2020 funding period. The report was produced under the direction of the Gesellschaft für Finanz- und Regionalanalysen Münster. According to the report, the program implementation was successful overall. The measures proved to be effective and made a recognizable contribution to the desired objectives. The objectives were Strengthening research, technological development and innovation as well as the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting the reduction of CO2 emissions, risk prevention and sustainable urban development. "The study underlines once again: Europe is important for Saxony. Europe is important for our economy," said Dulig.
