Aue-Bad Schlema wants to make the hearts of flower and garden fans beat faster next year with the 2027 State Garden Show. Preparations are in full swing and are well advanced in many areas. For example, a 1.7-kilometre-long pleasure trail has been built for visitors to stroll along. To the right and left of it, raised beds have been laid out where perennials are already in bloom.
The spa park, which is located on a redeveloped uranium mining site, is being upgraded for the flower show. In order to keep the mining legacy safe, there is a thick layer of insulation underground, explains Bernd Birkigt, Managing Director of the State Garden Show. In horticultural terms, this is a major problem. This is why the concept of hillside gardens was devised, which are laid out in various themed areas.
A flower hall is also to be set up in a former railroad station building and children will be able to let off steam in a large adventure playground. From the fall, a self-supporting wooden structure will also be built in the future entrance area as a special eye-catcher.
