For Saxony's Minister President and CDU Vice President Michael Kretschmer, the German flag belongs in the hands of the democrats during the demonstrations. "I love the flag of our country. We must not leave it to the extremists who want to seize it. As democrats, we must display this symbol of our free country with joy," he replied to a corresponding question from the newspapers of the Mediengruppe Bayern (Sunday/Monday). The demonstrations for democracy "have given us all strength".
In connection with the protests, Kretschmer criticized the behaviour of the federal government. "With every opinion poll and in every post-election survey, people give us a list of tasks that always starts with the issue of migration", followed by the issue of energy prices. The federal government "is turning away in an irresponsible manner. What we are experiencing is destroying democracy," said Kretschmer. This leaves him stunned.
The AfD can only be deprived of its breeding ground through political action by the democratic parties and important institutions, Kretschmer emphasized. "If the issues of migration policy, energy policy and the overreaching state are clarified, there is a chance to put these right-wing extremists in their place." No harsh attacks in the Bundestag would help, the coalition with the traffic light coalition would have to act and make decisions. "The best way to defend democracy is to prove that democracy solves the problems."
