Court: Voigt Has Withdrawn His Lawsuit Against Chemnitz University of Technology
The legal proceedings in the dispute over Thuringia’s Minister President Mario Voigt’s (CDU) doctoral degree have been dismissed. Voigt has withdrawn his lawsuit, a spokeswoman for the Chemnitz Administrative Court said in response to a dpa inquiry. As a result, the court will no longer address the merits of the legal dispute. Voigt will be responsible for the costs of the proceedings. After a lengthy review, Chemnitz University of Technology had decided to revoke the CDU politician’s doctoral degree and rejected Voigt’s appeal against the decision. He subsequently filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court. Voigt faces allegations of plagiarism in his 2008 dissertation, “The American Presidential Election Campaign: George W. Bush vs. John F. Kerry.” Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
