After two weeks with her mother, the new Rothschild's giraffe can now get to know gazelles, antelopes and zebras.

Two weeks after her birth, the Rothschild giraffe cub is now exploring the outdoor enclosure at Leipzig Zoo. According to the zoo, the daughter of giraffe Tamika first got to know the giraffe herd. Since Thursday, she has also been exploring living together with the other animal species.

The giraffes share the enclosure at Leipzig Zoo with animal species such as zebras, gazelles and antelopes. Therefore, the young giraffe must learn to recognize the behaviour of the others and act correctly herself, it was said. This is important so that it follows the herd and avoids possible dangers.

A name is still being sought for the young animal. When the last giraffe was born, it took around six weeks before she was given the name Niara.
