A modern emergency room, a cardiac catheterization laboratory and a center for paediatric and adolescent medicine. The St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig is to be brought up to date. The costs are immense.

The St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig is undergoing extensive modernization. The Free State is supporting the new building with around 101.7 million euros, as announced by the Ministry of Health at the foundation stone ceremony. The gradual consolidation and centralization of the hospital landscape should enable short distances and a more efficient organization of treatment areas in the future. The new building is scheduled for completion in 2028.

The plans include a new six-storey building with Saxony's largest and most modern emergency department with special areas for children, a cardiac catheterization laboratory and extended diagnostics departments. In addition, a state-of-the-art intensive care and monitoring ward with specialized units, new departments for cardiology, neurology and oncology as well as a center for paediatric and adolescent medicine with a capacity of 60 beds are to be built.
