Those who want to work as a GP in the countryside in the future can apply for a place to study medicine via the rural doctor quota until the end of February. "From January 15 to February 29, 2024, it will be possible to apply for a place to study medicine in Saxony for the winter semester 2024/2025," announced the Saxony State Directorate in Chemnitz on Friday. They are looking for committed young people who see their future as general practitioners in the rural regions of Saxony.

The rural doctor quota also allows access to medical studies outside of the numerus clausus. Possible study locations are Leipzig, Dresden or Chemnitz. Since the winter semester 2022/2023, 6.5 percent of medical study places have been allocated in this way. There are 40 places available for the next intake. After completing their studies and subsequent specialist training, applicants undertake to work for at least ten years in primary care in rural areas in Saxony.
