Cabinet Launches New Training Program for Nursing Assistants

The Saxon government is launching a new, nationally standardized training program for nursing assistants. According to the Ministry of Health, this is intended to implement a federal law. The draft bill will now be submitted to the state legislature for approval. 

Trainees must receive compensation

The new training program is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2027. It will generally last 18 months and includes mandatory placements in both elder care and hospitals. For example, those who have previously failed to successfully complete training as a registered nurse can shorten the duration. A key change for trainees is mandatory compensation.

Köpping: Reaching New Target Groups

The new, nationally standardized job profile makes it easier to enter the field of professional nursing and offers attractive compensation even during the training program, said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) according to a press release. It offers career prospects for anyone who does not want to or cannot complete a three-year nursing training program. “We are reaching new target groups and creating an incentive to work in nursing.” Given the rising number of people in need of care, staff are urgently needed.
