After months of crisis, the Leipzig streetcar manufacturer has sent an important signal. But there is still one step to go before the final rescue.

Production has restarted at the insolvent Leipzig streetcar manufacturer Heiterblick. "Short-time working has ended," confirmed a company spokesperson. After months of uncertainty, regular operations are gradually returning to the factory halls. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported.

Takeover to be completed this spring

The economic foundation for the rescue has been laid. According to the spokesperson, "everything is in the bag". However, the takeover by the Polish rail vehicle manufacturer Pesa has yet to be finalized. The court is expected to confirm the insolvency plan in mid-April, followed by a statutory objection period for creditors. The change of ownership could then be finalized at the end of May.

Pesa announced its intention to take over Heiterblick in full at the beginning of January. An agreement to this effect had already been signed in December, with completion targeted for the first quarter of 2026.

Investor wants to strengthen location and secure jobs

The investor's involvement is intended to strengthen the Leipzig location and secure around 250 jobs. There are also plans to gradually expand production. Heiterblick had been undergoing restructuring proceedings under self-administration since April 2025 after delivery problems and rising costs, among other things, had caused the company difficulties.
