In Saxony's major cities, fewer restaurants had to close due to hygiene deficiencies in 2025. The responsible food monitoring and veterinary offices (LÜVA) in Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz ordered five closures last year, according to the cities' press offices. Compared to 2024, the number has therefore halved.
The authorities differentiate between minor and major violations. Operators can rectify minor defects, such as empty paper towel dispensers, immediately after being instructed without further action. If more serious violations, such as spoiled food, are found, measures such as fines or the ordering of a follow-up inspection follow.
