Consumer prices in Saxony rose by 2.8 percent in October. In September, the rate had stood at 3.4 percent. Two factors in particular continue to drive prices upward.

The fuel tax rebate has pushed the inflation rate in Saxony below three percent. According to the State Statistical Office, consumer prices in October were 2.8 percent higher than at the same time in 2025. In September, the rate had stood at 3.4 percent. One reason for the decline is the temporary reduction in the energy tax on fuel, as a spokeswoman explained when asked.

According to the State Office, the still-high price level was driven by high costs for heating oil and fuels. As a result, consumers had to spend 52.6 percent more on heating oil in October than a year ago. For fuels, inflation amounted to 25.8 percent.

Food prices fell

Compared to the previous month, fuel prices fell by 7.3 percent, according to the State Office. Heating oil prices, on the other hand, rose by three percent. Overall, consumer prices in Saxony fell by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.

Prices became more affordable for buyers of fresh vegetables and potatoes (-0.9 percent). There was also a slight decline in the prices of fish and seafood (-0.8 percent) as well as bread and grains (-0.4 percent).
