The insurance industry has calculated new regional classes for motor vehicle liability: While car owners in Leipzig will benefit, those in the district of Meißen will probably pay more next year.

Car owners in the district of Meißen must expect higher premiums for motor vehicle liability insurance. The background to this is a recalculation of the damage balances and regional classes of the approximately 400 registration districts nationwide. This resulted in higher liability insurance classes in the district of Meißen, according to the German Insurance Association (GDV). In contrast, around 200,000 policyholders in Leipzig could look forward to lower classes.

In principle, the better the classification in the regional class, the more favorable this is for the insurance premium, which, however, is also determined by other factors. The decisive factor for the regional class is the owner's place of residence - and not where the damage occurred. The GDV's regional statistics are non-binding for insurance companies. It can be used with immediate effect for new contracts and for existing contracts from the next insurance year, the GDV announced.

According to the information, the regional classes for comprehensive insurance have also been recalculated. There are no increases here in Saxony, and they are even falling in four regions: Dresden, Erzgebirgskreis, Görlitz and Nordsachsen. In Görlitz, lower classes will apply in future for partial and comprehensive cover, in the other three regions only for one of the two types of insurance.
