A total of around 1,300 people currently work at Halle/Leipzig and Dresden airports. Around one in eight are now set to lose their jobs this year.

Medium German Airports AG is planning to cut jobs at Halle/Leipzig and Dresden airports. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the company to the German Press Agency. According to the statement, 172 of the total of around 1,300 jobs are to be cut. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported this.

In the course of a drastic cost-cutting plan, redundancies for operational reasons are also possible, it said. Employees have been informed of the measures.

Employees will now initially be able to sign up for a volunteer program. All areas of the Group are affected by the cuts, it said.

The reason for the job cuts is to restructure the Group, which has been reporting losses for years. The largest shareholder is the state of Saxony.
