Where hot water and heating are turned off in Leipzig

For five to six days, Leipzig residents will not be able to use heating or hot water in individual streets in seven districts. However, the drinking water supply will not be affected at any time, according to the Leipziger Gruppe.

Who is affected by the measure?

According to the announcement, houses with district heating supply in the Central and South districts are affected. This includes the districts of Zentrum Süd, Zentrum Südost, Südvorstadt, Connewitz, Marienbrunn and parts of Lößnig and Dölitz-Dösen.

In particular, addresses with the zip codes 04103 and 04107 in Mitte and with the zip codes 04275, 04277 and 04279 in Süd are affected by the measures.

Two sports pool vouchers for those affected

People from affected households can pick up two vouchers for Leipzig's sports pools, the Leipzig group announced. This gives them the opportunity to take a shower and go swimming.

The vouchers have been available at the "nato" on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße since Tuesday. Next Monday and Tuesday, Leipziger Stadtwerke will be on site again between 12:00 and 18:00.

The vouchers will be issued with proof of the current residential address, according to the press release. These can be redeemed during the measures between May 31 and June 5 - for one hour at the Sportbad an der Elster, the Grünauer Welle or the Sportbad am Rabet. In all other indoor and outdoor swimming pools of the Leipzig sports pools, all-day admission is even possible.

Why are there restrictions?

According to the Leipziger Group, the work involves connecting a new network to the existing supply system as part of the district heating expansion. The aim is to create a "long-term stable, reliable and increasingly climate-friendly heat supply".

In order to connect the network, work is being carried out on existing main lines. Due to its dimensions, this work cannot be carried out during ongoing operations, it said. The affected section of the network would therefore have to be temporarily shut down and the district heating water it contains completely drained.
