Carsten Körber, the CDU member of the Bundestag from Zwickau, sees a future for the automotive industry in the region even if the Volkswagen plant were to close. “If the reports are confirmed and Volkswagen does indeed abandon the site, that must not spell the end of automotive manufacturing in Zwickau,” said Körber.

He is convinced: “Cars will continue to be built in Zwickau in the future—just by a different company.” The site has highly qualified employees, modern production facilities, and an efficient supplier network. These are strong arguments for new investments.
