Studying medicine without an A-level? The rural doctor program in Saxony makes it possible. Interested parties can still apply until the end of the month.

The countdown is on: Young people who would like to work as a GP in the countryside after completing their medical studies in Saxony have until 28 February to apply for a place on the rural doctor program. The special feature: The program makes it possible to study even without a top A-level, according to the Ministry of Health. Motivation and previous experience are the main factors in the selection process.

According to the information, there are 40 places available for anyone who commits to working in rural areas for at least ten years after completing their studies. This means that 6.5 percent of medical study places are allocated to prospective rural doctors. Students study in Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz. Applications can be submitted online.

"I hope that many interested people will take the opportunity," said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). If admission to degree courses is restricted, admission is determined by the A-level grade (numerus clausus). Most recently, the numerus clausus for medical studies in Saxony was 1.1.
