There are signs that this year's flu epidemic in Saxony is coming to an end. This is how the State Investigation Institute (LUA) in Chemnitz assesses the situation in the Free State. The number of influenza cases fell by 46 percent last week compared to the previous week, according to the LUA's weekly report. According to the report, the number of influenza cases has been falling since the end of January. All age groups are affected, with health authorities reporting clusters in hospitals and occasionally in children's facilities and retirement homes. Since the start of the flu season at the end of September 2025, 229 people have died with a confirmed case of influenza. For the first time this year, the number of infections with the RSV virus fell: by 25 percent compared to the previous week. The disease mainly affects small children, but also older adults. Accordingly, 20 RSV deaths have been recorded so far this season. According to the LUA, the coronavirus ranks well behind influenza and RSV among the pathogens. According to the information, the number of cases remains at a consistently low level. A total of 143 coronavirus deaths have been recorded since the start of the season.
