The Science City Jena basketball team suffered its second loss of the season in its second game. Jena lost to the Gladiators Trier 85–98 (49–54) and now finds itself near the bottom of the standings. Eli Brooks (21), Jordan Roland (20), Marco Hollersbacher (14), and Austin Crowley (11) played the biggest roles in the hosts’ victory. For Jena, the outstanding Terrence Edwards Jr. (25), Tanner Stuckman (13), Isaiah Moses, and Ira Lee (10 each) scored in double digits. The visitors took the lead for the first time in the first quarter at 20–19 (7th minute), but then fell behind 20–31 within two minutes due to a 12–0 run by Trier. By halftime, Jena had clawed its way back to within five points and led 73–69 heading into the final quarter. But in the closing stages, Coach Steven Esterkamp’s team collapsed.
