Energie Cottbus, which was promoted this season, has signed center back King Manu to a permanent contract after he had previously been on loan. The second-division soccer club announced the move. The 22-year-old comes from Fortuna Düsseldorf, where the defender’s contract expired following the club’s relegation to the 3. Liga.
A native of Cologne, he spent his early youth playing for the Borussia Mönchengladbach youth academy, among other clubs. As a professional, he was also under contract with Hansa Rostock. Last season, which culminated in Cottbus’s promotion, King Manu played 28 league games for the Lusatians and scored two goals.
Meanwhile, Italian right back Simon Straudi has left Cottbus. The defender has joined Energie’s rival, Dynamo Dresden.
