Hertha jewel Kennet Eichhorn should return to the squad after months of injury. If the Berliners win in Dresden, things could get exciting again in the promotion battle.

Young star Kennet Eichhorn is about to make his comeback in the jersey of second-division soccer club Hertha BSC. Although a starting eleven appearance is too early for the 16-year-old, the Berlin native will be in the squad, announced coach Stefan Leitl ahead of Saturday's floodlit match at Dynamo Dresden (20:30/RTL Nitro and Sky).

On Monday, the midfielder, who has been courted by several Bundesliga clubs, completed his first training session with the team since mid-January. An ankle injury put Eichhorn out of action for months. "Nevertheless, Kenny is making a very good impression in all forms of the game. He's already much further along than we expected," reported Leitl.

Warning for Gechter

There is a question mark over the participation of U21 international Linus Gechter, even if Leitl was able to give the all-clear for the time being. "We are of course very happy that the examinations have not revealed a more serious injury. Nevertheless, Linus is feeling a lot of pain in his shoulder," said Leitl, referring to the final training session on Friday.

The 22-year-old, who missed much of last season due to a shoulder injury, is set to play in central defense for Hertha in the second half of the season. Toni Leistner could be a possible replacement.

Seven points behind third place

The capital city club are hoping for their fourth win from the last five games. There is still some hope of promotion, even if nobody in the Berlin team wants to talk about it publicly. The gap to third place is seven points ahead of the 28th matchday.

Promoted Dresden, on the other hand, are fighting against relegation. "There are few stadiums of this size that can develop such an impact. It will be a mental challenge for us," warned Leitl.
