Dynamo after violence: No more taboo topics

Stadium bans and expulsion from the club: Dynamo Dresden is taking action against the rioters after the riots in the second division match against Hertha BSC and wants to improve its own security concept. "When trust is abused and clear boundaries are crossed, we as a club have a responsibility to change our basic procedures," said Supervisory Board Chairman Michael Ziegenbalg in a joint press release issued by all Dynamo bodies.

Council of Honor decides on membership

"Anyone who demonstrates such misconduct can no longer be part of our sports community. If values such as respect, fairness and humanity are trampled underfoot, we will plead with the Honorary Council to revoke the membership of these individuals," said Dynamo President Ronny Rehn. All sides are also calling for swift, deterrent action by the judiciary.

The review of photo and video material has provided numerous insights into the events. The next step will now be to identify, with the help of the police, the people who were clearly involved in the altercations inside the stadium, said Dynamo's commercial director Stephan Zimmermann.

Incident before Nuremberg game

"For us, there is no potential for discussion here - as soon as perpetrators are identified, there will be a strict procedure for stadium bans from our side in addition to criminal prosecution by the police," emphasized Zimmermann. At the match on April 4, supporters of both teams had climbed over barrier fences and attacked each other inside the stadium with fireworks, among other things. Police officers then intervened, separated the camps and secured the pitch.

The incidents before the match at 1. FC Nürnberg, when more than 200 supporters of Dynamo and 1. FC Nürnberg had arranged to meet for a brawl in an industrial estate near Eisfeld before the clash between the two clubs, which was classified as a high-risk match, are also to be investigated and included in the criminal proceedings. The police were able to separate the rival camps.

New security concept to take effect immediately

The first measures following discussions with representatives of the associations, police, security agencies, fan scene and fan project, Hertha BSC as well as the Ministry of the Interior and the state capital Dresden are to be implemented as quickly as possible and will already take effect in part at the upcoming home game against VfL Bochum on Saturday (13:00/Sky). In future, security staff will also be deployed in front of the K-Block area during high-risk matches.

In addition, police officers will be positioned directly in the stadium. Following consultation with the police, the buffer zones in the home area around the guest block will also be extended with immediate effect. All in all, a far-reaching prevention concept is being developed to further improve matchday procedures.

Minister of the Interior calls for more than just words

Saxony's Minister of the Interior Armin Schuster praised Dynamo for the measures, but called for more than just words and intentions. "All the stops must now be pulled out, because the upcoming home games are a crucial test for the club and the fan scene in terms of honestly turning away from violence and rioting," said the CDU politician.

What the DFB's penalty will be remains to be seen. The two clubs involved have until noon on Friday to submit statements. Regardless of this, Dynamo are expecting significant financial and reputational damage.
